Nigel Weale
Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
 
   

Areas of Responsibility: The CEO has overall responsibility for the commissioning and operational management of the Hospital. As the key interface with the Hospital’s Governing Board, he works closely with the Board in setting the business and strategic directions of the Hospital and reporting regularly on the key strategies and goals as determined.  The CEO leads an effective and efficient team that meets the Hospital’s clinical, educational and research objectives in a quality driven environment that respects the cultural diversity of the Emirate of Sharjah.

   

Career Snapshot: Nigel joined the senior management team in mid July 2009. He has held senior positions in the United Kingdom’s Hospitals & National Health Service, as well as in the UK Independent Sector.

Nigel has considerable Middle East experience having held Chief Executive Positions in Saudi Arabia and was Project Director/Senior Vice President at the National Guard King Khaled Hospital in Jeddah for six years. He has previously worked in the UAE in both Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.  

 
   

Formal Education: Educated at Brecon High School in Wales, Nigel gained a Degree in History at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. He became a member of the Institute of Health Services Management having passed all the examinations at the first attempt. He has been an active member of the Institute and was the Branch Secretary of the South and West Wales Branch of the Institute for five years.

Professor Hakam Yaseen
Acting Medical Director
 
     

Areas of Responsibility: The MD aims to have in International standard of medical care through appointing medical staff of the highest calibre, both from the Middle East and overseas. These conjoint academic and clinical appointments will be committed to quality, clinical, academic, and research pursuits.

There will be clear and transparent credentialing, clinical privileging and appointment processes that will add to the strong focus on quality with optimum clinical risk.

The hospital will support the curriculum and clinical teaching requirements of the University of Sharjah, of which medicine, dentistry and pharmacy are Australian university based.

The hospital will commence an accreditation program from the point of its initial opening in 2008 and will have specialised clinical areas, acting as a reference centre for these clinical needs through ̵ out the MENA region.

     

Career Snapshot: Professor Hakam Yaseen joined UHS in March 2010. He has held senior hospital positions in France, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and UAE as a Paediatrician/Neonatologist.

He has held a position of Consultant or Senior Consultant in Caen University Hospital (France), King Fahd University Hospital (University of King Faisal, Saudi Arabia) and worked in many UK prestigious hospitals including University College of  London Hospital (UCLH), Aberdeen, Birmingham and Exeter.

Professor Yaseen was working as a Lecturer at Caen University (France) and as Assistant Professor at King Faisal University.

Presently he is Professor of Paediatrics at Sharjah University with 35 papers published in international peer reviewed journals and he was speaker or chair person in more than 40 international and national conferences and symposia.

Professor Yaseen is also certified Examiner with the Paediatric Royal College, UK.

 
     

Formal Education: Professor Yaseen was trained in France, holding a double French Board in Paediatrics (Rennes University) and in Neonatology (Nancy University).

He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics, FRCPCH (UK).

Professor Yaseen is a fully registered Consultant with the British General Medical Council (GMC), the French Medical Council and as a Senior Consultant with Ministry Of Health  in the UAE.

Monica Bell
Director of Nursing
 
     

Areas of Responsibility: The Director of Nursing (DON) is a member of the executive management team working closely with Chief Executive Office and the Chief Medical Officer.

The DON’s principal remit is the provision of a quality and safe nursing service complying with the highest international standards and best practice in association with the establishment of an environment that respects the cultural multiplicity of the Emirate of Sharjah and provides support to all clinical services.  

The DON assists in the commissioning and running of the hospital and is responsible for establishment of the Nursing and Quality Department and which will coordinate the implementation of Accreditation Canada international standards. The DON is also a member of the Nursing Department, University of Sharjah Advisory Board.

   

Career Snapshot: Monica’s career spans over 20 years of working in public, private and military health care organizations working with multicultural professional and non-professional staff  in such diverse locations as the Middle East , Lebanon,  Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Europe and the UK.

She has held a variety of positions including Director of Nursing, Director of Patient Care Services and Senior Management roles which included commissioning and running hospitals and departments, implementing international accreditation programs and establishing departments including Nursing, Education, Infection Control, Risk Management, Quality Improvement, Medical Records and Housekeeping

 
     

Formal Education: Monica is a UK Registered Nurse with a postgraduate Master’s degree in Nursing and Health Sciences from Edinburgh University.

Further postgraduate qualifications obtained in UK include Operating Room, Occupational Health, Management and Quality diplomas and certificates. She has also attended numerous senior management workshops related to implementing various international accreditations programs.
